Dear Wendy,
Valentine's
Day is coming up and you wonderful people have already shown your love
to the group. We had a huge turnout for the cleanup and painting of the
Village Gallery so the work went by very quickly. If only the
volunteer turnout was that large for everything we do. The gallery
looks great with a fresh coat of clean white paint and we cleared out a
lot of detritus that piled up in the back over time. A new show will be
up this month, so bring by your work, stop by for a visit, or
volunteer to sit so we can bring visitors in to see all our hard work.
March will bring several special opportunities to show your work, so
start working on pieces now. We hope to see you at the next meeting.
Don't forget to check out our website for upcoming hanging and social
events that include: Chocolate Festival at the VG, Spotlight of the
Arts Show and Reception, the Heritage Festival and the Providence Show.
Just click on the blue EVENTS tab at the top of the webpage to learn
more about these and other upcoming events.

February Watercolor Demonstration ~ By Frank Spinks:
Starting around 10:45 on Saturday, February 4 following a Fairfax Art
League Member's Meeting; celebrated watercolor artist and potter, Frank
H. Spink, will discuss his work and techniques. His paintings have been
exhibited throughout northern California including San Francisco's
DeYoung Museum, Palace of Fine Arts and the Jack London Square Festival.
Moving to Northern Virginia in 1967, he became member and president of
the Potomac Valley Watercolorists and a signature member of the Virginia
Watercolor Society. His work ranges from representational to abstract
and from traditional transparent watercolor to oriental techniques on
rice paper. His interpretative landscape paintings are a bridge between
eastern and western compositional and perspective thinking. Frank has
been listed in Who's Who in American Art since 1976.This Fairfax Art
League lecture demonstration event will also be held at The Village
Gallery. This event is free and open to the public.

February's
show will highlight the paintings of Nicki Shishakly. Nicki will be
our Featured Artist for February. Members are encouraged to also show
at Old Town Hall this month, to complete a varied and full show in our
Old Town Hall Gallery. The show will be hung on February 2nd, between
the hours of 1-7PM. Nicki's reception will be held on February 9th
from 7-9P. Please come out and support Nicki and your fellow Fairfax Art
League members.
Our
big Spotlight on the Arts show will be hung on April 5th. Each member
is allowed to register two pieces of artwork for this show. Each entry
will have an $8 hanging fee. The show will be judged, with cash prizes
awarded. You should start thinking about and working on your Spotlight
entry now.
Our
Old Town Hall Gallery needs many more sitters to allow us to be open
100% of our hours. We can only open our gallery when we have someone to
man it. Please contact Carol Caputo at 703-273-1277, or
carolanncap@yahoo.com if you can help.

Fairfax Village Gallery News

The
Village Gallery has a fresh coat of paint. There was a nice turnout of
FLA members on January 14th to paint and clean-up the gallery. It is
much brighter and is ready for the February show.
The
theme for February's show will be animals; your pets, wildlife,
creepy-crawlies, etc. and we will even consider people. Be creative and
let's see what we can do.
The
January show was cancelled due to construction work to accommodate the
new Pub that is going in above us. Work was done quickly and
professionally. I expected delays; they in fact were ahead of schedule.
