Solo exhibition by Richard McMurry in the wing space of the Village Gallery.
Richard has been painting with oils for over 40 years, and creates both realistic and stylized landscapes. He enjoys working with light and atmospheric perspective and has been working on a series of stylized “Neo Cubism” landscape paintings he calls “Fan Trees”. All of these paintings are of special places around the DC Metropolitan area including some views from the Shennandoah valley in Virginia, as well as Manhattan.
“Nature has always been my favorite subject. Later, I learned to appreciate the beauty and the complexity of urban landscapes. It dawned on me a few years ago that cities have their own nature, as well as special light reflective qualities. I now try to, whenever possible, incorporate both worlds into my compositions. I now seek urban scenes that have a touch of foliage either in the background, foreground or both.”
