About Bennie Herron

Bennie Herron's artwork takes a critical view of social, political and cultural issues through a self-reflective foundation. He only paints himself. All of his paintings are examples of personal experience or observation and response to external experiences. He is moved by wanting to add on to the world, never subtracting. If it can't improve it he tries not to act on it. His materials and process derives from blues culture. Understanding that sometimes the beauty is in the pain and that is reflected in the expression of his work. He holds a Masters degree in poetry and literature and has appeared in numerous journals and publications. He has published three full length poetry collections. He believes that life frames what the heart paints therefore he puts his heart into everything that he does.
