Reception - Featured Artist: Jeffrey Bell

Jeffrey Bell has been working for the federal government, for over thirty years, as a scientific and technical photographer. His interests in photography began when his older brother gifted him a Polaroid camera at age eight. Jeffrey believes in giving back; he has been associated with the

Shooting Back for the Artsprogram, where he volunteers his time teaching photography and serving as a big brother to Washington, D.C. area young adults. He has provided assistance and photographic work to local businesses, theater companies and other photography studios.

Jeffrey has solid photographic training from several institutions here in the United States and Europe. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in photography from the Rochester Institute of Technology and studied photography at the prestigious, Salzburg College in Salzburg, Austria.

He has been able to maintain his skills by attending seminars and workshops across the country including Santa Fe Photographic Workshops and Maine Media Workshops. Called on to provide instruction on different photographic techniques over the years, he believes once you stop learning you should get out of the business. Art Demonstration by Melanie Zucker Stanley

Green Acres Center, Rm. 116

Enjoy Melanie's horse painting demonstration as she shares fun ways to create a collage with mixed media.

Melanie's art reflects personal experiences, natural environs, and the emotional impact of change that she observes and explores in everyday life. She finds inspiration when riding her horse through fields of wildflowers, hiking scenic trails, and walking along oceans noting colors, shapes, movement and forms. Their transitions and interactions compel her to interpret the composition of canvass and paper through color, texture, and light.

Renewick Visit: Burning Man Exhibit

Meeting time: 9:45 a.m.

Estimated return: 4:30 p.m.

Each year in Nevada's Black Rock Desert, a city of 70,000 people erect enormous experimental art installations that rise out of the dust for a single week. Then, at its conclusion, many are burned to the ground. This thriving temporary metropolis known as the Art of Burning Man is a hotbed of artistic ingenuity and one of the most influential phenomenons in contemporary American art and culture.

For the first time, the Art of Burning Man exhibit brings the large-scale participatory work from the desert to the national's capital. The exhibit takes over the entire Renwick Gallery building at 1661 Pennsylvania Ave, NW and brings the Burning Man culture to life through artworks, room-size installations plus jewelry, and costumes that transport visitors to the famed desert location, the "playa." The exhibit also includes six outdoor installations throughout the Golden Triangle neighborhood. Come see it for yourself with the FAL.

Carpool and Metro Transportation: Park in the garage near the old Village Gallery location at 3950 University Drive (or elsewhere) and gather by 9:45 a.m. in the air conditioned lobby by the yoga studio. At 10 a.m. designated drivers will depart for the Vienna Metro Station (Orange Line). A Metro fare card is needed to ride to the Faragut West Metro stop. Members interested in joining the group should contact Susan Reichbart at ssreichbart@verizon.net

Following the exhibit, the group will walk to a local restaurant and then return by Metro to the Vienna Metro Station.
